| First, the keel, still linking the spine of the statue to the lava bed, is whittled away (fig.1). When it is thin enough, holes are cut through it, and filled with round stones. | The statue slides down the volcano slope, probably restrained by ropes (fig.3). Having reached its destination, a vertical hole cut at the base of the slope (fig.4), it is made to stand (fig.5).
